Kathy McLean is a teacher of Kundalini Yoga, The Yoga of Awareness as taught by Yogi Bhajan. She teaches at a yoga studio in Norwood, Adelaide and holds yoga and meditation classes along with workshops from Monday to Friday.
Kundalini Yoga uses the chakra system to harmonise the body bringing energy, flexibility, balance and awareness. It includes asana (posture and stretching), Pranayam (breath work), mantra (chants), sound, meditation and relaxation.
Kathy McLean was trained under Gurujivan Kaur who has been teaching Kundalini Yoga for over 30 years in Australia and Asia. Gurujivan lives in Victoria and trains people in Melbourne and Sydney as well as running general Kundalini Yoga classes.
Kathy is a member of IKYTA (International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association) and KYTAANZ (Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association, Australia and New Zealand).
In 2006 Kathy was given her spiritual name of Balwant Kaur. Balwant means strength and bravery. Kaur means the Princess/Lioness of God who walks with grace and courage throughout her life. Kaur is a name that Yogi Bhajan gave to all women as he believed every woman has the potential to attain a true state of grace and courage. He encouraged each woman to manifest that potential. Receiving the name Balwant Kaur means Kathy has the potential for great spiritual strength, and the grace and courage of a Lioness of God. It is her life time purpose to live up to her name.
